Biography

Francesco "Ciccio" Di Carlo, born 12 June 1893 in Corleone,[1]

He immigrates on 4 October 1910 through the port of New York.[2]

On the Sant’Anna, departing Palermo and arriving in New York on 4 October 1910, are these passengers who were born and last resided in Corleone:

1. Giovanni Oliveri, 22 (b. 1888), single, leaves his father, Salvatore Oliveri (actually, Vincenzo), in Corleone, bound for Chicago, where he’s joining a cousin, Francesco Anzalone. Stands 5’4”, chestnut hair/eyes

2. Francesco Di Carlo, 17 (b. 1893), single, leaves his father Vincenzo di Carlo in Corleone, bound for New York where he’s joining his brother, Antonino Di Carlo, at 312 East 106th St.. Stands 5’4”, chestnut hair/eyes, scar on forehead

3. Rosario Provenzano, 17 (b. 1893), single, leaves his father Vincenzo Provenzano in Corleone, bound for New York, where he’s joining his brother Salvatore Provenzano at 117 E. 14? St. Stands 5’0”, chestnut hair/eyes, mark on his face.[3]

Francesco meets Santa "Sadie" Guarino (who was born 18 May 1898 in Cefalu) in Abbeville, Louisiana, while visiting his sister, Marianna. Frank and Sadie marry in 1917 and have one child in Louisiana, who dies in infancy.[2]

Frank suffers an ailment that he is told can only be cured by returning to his home country. He and Sadie return to Sicily and live in Corleone. They have two more children.[2]

Frank returns to the US in 1929 with his brother's child and fiancee.

On the SS Majestic, sailing from Cherbourg on 10 April 1929 and arriving in New York on 17 April:

10. Francesco di Carlo, 36 (b. 1893), married, merchant, connected to lines 11-12 with a bracket. All three born in Corleone, stamped “Transit.” Francesco leaves his father, Mr. V. Di Carlo, in Corleone. He is joining friends at Bank of Italy, 241 E. 108th St., New York.

11. Maria di Carlo, Francesco’s niece, 4 (b. 1925), leaves her grandfather as above

12. Antonina Picataci, Francesco’s cousin, 30 (b. 1899), single, leaves her uncle as above[4]

Antonina, who is Francesco's second cousin, marries Frank's brother, Giovanni, a week after her arrival in the Bronx.[2]

Frank's wife, Sadie, rejoins him in New York in 1937 with their sons, Vincenzo and Antonino.

Francesco dies in New York City in January 1958.[2]

Sadie dies in Flushing, New York, in September 1986.[2]
